Teutopolis village board members have passed the fiscal year tax levy for the assessment of taxes. The measure affects the fiscal year ending April 30, 2023.

The levy is just below 5% more than was assessed last tax year.

The Board also abated the levy for the bonds sold to finance a water line built from Newton to Teutopolis a few years ago.

Board members are discussing whether to enact an ordinance regulating swimming pools. Aaron Niebrugge of WET Pools and Spas of Effingham spoke to the Board and said that walk-on covers for in-ground pools are safe and are commonly used.

The Board is also working on a solar energy ordinance. Austin Bushur from New Leaf Solar and Tony Martin from Sonne Energy spoke to members of the Board committee handling the planning of the ordinance, but more work is needed on the measure.

Board members also approved a quote from Magoo and Associates of Effingham for Chromebooks and Chromebook cases for Village Board members. The items will be used by the members in lieu of printing paper copies of documents.
