Clay County board members Monday awarded a bid for re-roofing the historic Clay County Jail building in Louisville.

A June thunderstorm damaged the current roof including taking some of the metal roof off the building. Repairs were made to keep the contents of the building dry, but a permanent solution was still needed.

Two bids were received to completely repair the roof. The Board voted to accept the lower bid of $84,000 submitted by Winterrowd Excavating and Construction. The metal roof will be replaced with a shingled roof once repairs are completed.

The work will begin in mid-November in hopes of getting it completed by the time the snow starts to fly.
