Effingham Park Board commissioners heard Wednesday about proposed changes in the Effingham/Effingham County Enterprise Zone. One goal of the changes is to spur residential construction in the zone.

Park commissioners will vote on the proposed changes at their November meeting.

The Board reviewed the financial report, which shows a big increase in fuel prices. The increase is especially noticeable since the budget was developed before the increases occurred.

Board members heard that the fencing has arrived for the first phase of the Evergreen Bark Park. Park District Director Jeff Althoff is hopeful that installation of the fence will begin in the next week or two. The dog park is to be located near Harmony Playground and the baseball diamond at Evergreen Hollow Park.

The Board also heard that enrollment at the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex is about the same as the past couple of months. Althoff said that more swim lesson sessions have been added, and that a pickleball league recently added is already full.
