Effingham City Plan Commission members Tuesday approved a site plan for the RentX facility to be developed at 1505 Hampton Drive, the former location of the Effingham Tourism Center.

City Engineer Luke Thoele said the business, operated by Effingham Builders Supply, will rent and sell equipment. The building will be constructed on the west side of the property with the balance to be used for merchandise display and for parking. The structure will have a first floor and a mezzanine.

The Plan Commission also voted to recommend the City Council grant a special-use permit for climate controlled storage units. The units will be located to the south of the existing buildings on the site at 709 West Wabash Avenue. The existing buildings house a fitness center and baseball instruction areas and those businesses will remain in the existing buildings. The developers are Lee Kaufmann and Bill and Laura Voyles. The Council will have the final say on the issuance of the special-use permit.
