Aaron Jones was approved Wednesday by the Effingham County Board as Effingham County State's Attorney.

Jones, who said he was one of three people interviewed by the Effingham County Republican Central Committee selection committee for the position, will be sworn in as State's Attorney at the close of court business on Tuesday.

Jones will succeed Bryan Kibler as State's Attorney. Kibler resigned to take office as Effingham County Resident Circuit Judge. Assistant State's Attorney Rob Scales will continue as interim state's attorney until Jones' swearing-in, then will continue as assistant state's attorney. Scales did not seek the state's attorney's post.

Jones, who said it is a "honor and privilege to serve", spoke with News Director Greg Sapp about why he sought the office...

Jones will serve the balance of Kibler's term through November of 2024, and said he does plan to seek election to a full term at that time.

While Jones has been working in private practice, he reminded that some of the early days of his legal career were spent working in the office of Ed Deters when Deters was serving as state's attorney.

Board members Norbert Soltwedel and Elizabeth Huston were not present for Wednesday's special meeting.
