County's July Jobless Rate at 3%

Effingham County's unemployment rate in July was an even 3%. The rate is down from 3.9% in July 2021.

Total nonfarm employment in July 2022 increased by 575 compared to last year.

Employment gains were posted in Construction (+200), Government (+125), Manufacturing (+125), Educational and Health Services (+100), Professional and Business Services (+100), Leisure and Hospitality (+25), Natural Resources and Mining (+25), and Financial Activities.

Employment declined in Trade, Transportation and Utilities (-100), and Information (-25).

No change was reported in Other Services.

Other area counties and their July jobless rates:

Coles--5%, down from 5.8%

Cumberland--3.5%, down from 4.3%

Shelby--4%, down from 4.3%

Clay--5.4%, unchanged from a year earlier

Fayette--4.3%, down from an even 5%

Jasper--3.7%, down from 4.4%. 

The state unemployment rate for July was 4.8%, down from 6.6% one year earlier.
