Jasper County board members are discussing going to a four-day work week for county employees.

The employees now work Monday thru Friday from 8am to 4pm. The county Board is considering switching to a 7:30am to 5pm schedule Monday thru Thursday. Employees would go from one hour to half hour lunch breaks.

The matter is to be reviewed again at the September board meeting.

Jasper board members also approved an interim management contract with United Life Care to manage the Jasper County Ambulance Service. United Life Care is to be paid $5,000 per month. The County has been working for some time to maintain a Jasper County-based ambulance service.

The Board also voted to contribute $10,000 to the Economic Development efforts of the county now under the operation of the Chamber of Commerce. Economic opportunity at one time had been a separate entity, but that was discontinued at a considerable cost savings. $10,000 had been in the County budget for economic development, but the money had not been donated since 2020.

The County continues looking for a public defender. State's Attorney James Treccia had approached Clay County about sharing their public defender, but Clay County decided against the proposal.

The new Jasper County jail building is nearing completion. a punch list is to be completed as soon as this week, with possession of the building to be turned over by the contractor to the County.
