Mattoon Man Killed in Weekend Crash

A Mattoon man was fatally injured in a crash Saturday evening.

22-year-old Anakin Feuerborn was traveling westbound at Coles County Roads 1000 North and 700 East near Mattoon when the crash occurred at 5:08pm. Coles County Sheriff's Department reports that Feuerborn's car drifted onto the north shoulder of the roadway. Feuerborn overcorrected and the car skidded across the roadway and struck the ditch. Feuerborn was ejected from the rear window of the hatchback vehicle and landed in the ditch. 

After being treated at the scene, Feuerborn was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana, where he was prononced dead at 2:35am Sunday.

Toxicology results are pending. The incident is under investigation by the Coles County Sheriff's Office and the Champaign County Coroner's Office. Mattoon Fire Department, Mitchell-Jerdan Ambulance Service, Lincoln Fire Department, Mattoon Police Department, and Air Evac all assisted at the scene.
