Effingham City Council members this week approved an agreement for engineering work on upcoming improvements on Douglas Avenue and 5th Street.

Farnsworth Group will do $96,300 in work for street improvements on Douglas from 4th to 5th Streets and on 5th Street from Wabash to Kreke Avenues. The work will include redoing the intersection of Kreke and 5th.

The project will include pavement, storm sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk and parking lanes where needed.

The Council discussed several possible projects. Those include Phase 2 of road improvements in Rollin Hills Subdivision; renewing contracts for billboards along I-70 in Warrenton, Missouri and in Brazil, Indiana, promoting Effingham; and several bid lettings on projects coming up next week.

Council members also approved bid awards or change orders on sewer and manhole lining work, concrete pavement patching, and water main looping work on Outer Belt West.
