The Republican primary battle for Congress between incumbents Rodney Davis of Taylorville and Mary Miller of Oakland has been one of the most vocal in our area.

Effingham County voters should be reminded, though, that it isn't their fight.

Davis and Miller are battling it out to see who will be the Republican candidate in the 15th District. The new 15th, though, won't include Effingham County come 2023. In fact, the political maps approved this year drew Miller out of the 15th District and into the new 12th District, of which Effingham County will be a part. Miller was left with the choice of running for another term either in the new 12th District, where Republican Mike Bost is the incumbent, or the redrawn 15th District, where she squares off against Davis. She chose the 15th District.

That means Miller is running for election to a district where she doesn't live. A reminder, though, that Congresspeople don't have to live in the district they represent.

Meanwhile, two people are running for the Democrat nomination in the new 12th District. They are Homer "Chip" Markel of Carbondale and Joshua Qualls of Centralia. The winner will face Bost in November.

The primary is less than a week away.
