An Altamont woman was injured in a crash in Wayne County that resulted in the death of an infant.

24-year-old Alissa Crum was a passenger in a car that collided with a semi on Ilinois Route 15 at 1:35pm Thursday. Illinois State Police say Crum was in a car driven by 24-year-old Porscha Schultz of Fairfield. Schultz had pulled over onto the shoulder of the roadway at a mailbox. The vehicle then pulled back onto the highway in front of a semi driven by 29-year-old Jordan Ambrous of Carmi. The semi struck the car from behind.

The one-year-old boy who died was in the back seat of the car, and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Wayne County Coroner. The boy's name has not been released. Both Alissa Crum and Schultz were flown to a regional hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Ambrous was not injured. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

Illinois Route 15 was closed for approximately six hours following the crash.
