Rural Med has plans in place to take over as 911 ambulance service provider in Effingham County.

The changeover to Rural Med is effective Sunday, May 1. Rural Med will take over emergency service from Abbott EMS, which has provided 911 service in the county for the past five years.

Rural Med owner Ethan Bouser said Friday that all of their trucks are ready to roll and that they are fully staffed. The company has a base in Dieterich that is fully stocked, and they are ready to stage in Effingham.

Bouser said that it will be some months before their base in Effingham will be ready, but they have plans for temporary housing in Effingham until the base on Wabash Avenue is ready.

Home base for Rural Med is Fayette County. They began in Farina, but their headquarters is now located in St. Elmo.

You should phone 911 for emergencies. Bouser said anyone wanting information or to make educational requests can use 618-245-9111.
