Newton Man Killed in Crash Monday Afternoon (UPDATE)

One man was killed when a semi collided with a SUV in Jasper County Monday afternoon.

The man who died in the crash was identified as 68-year-old Charles Willis "Murf" Jamerson from Newton.

State police report Jamerson was driving the SUV that was eastbound on Illinois Route 33, just east of 1200th Avenue. The SUV for unknown reasons crossed the center line into the path of the semi driven by 31-year-old Tyler Carlson of Moscow Mills, Missouri. The units collided and both units ended up off the highway and into ditches.

Jamerson was pronounced dead at the scene. Carlson was not injured.

The crash happened at 3:14pm. State police and the Jasper County Coroner's Office are continuing their investigation into the crash.
