Teutopolis school officials have a goal of choosing their next high school principal by the end of the school year.

The action will be necessary after the Board finalized a decision to reclassify the current principal, Greg Beck, as a classroom teacher for next school year.

The school board voted February 22 to reclassify Beck. A private hearing was held at Beck's request on March 17 and the Board again voted for the reclassification. Beck then requested a public hearing, which took place on Monday of this week.

Well over 100 people were present at the two-hour hearing, with most of those speaking voicing support for Beck, and a couple of others supporting the Board's position.

The Board then voted for Beck's reclassification from principal to teacher as of the end of the current school year.

Teutopolis Superintendent Matt Sturgeon said Thursday it would likely be too quick to have a candidate ready for consideration by the Board at their April 19 meeting, but some action at the May meeting or at a special meeting would be possible.
