The St. Elmo Board of Education Monday hired its next superintendent.

He is Travis Portz and currently serves as a principal in the Ramsey school district. Portz will succeed Julie Healy who is retiring as superintendent as the end of the school year. Portz will begin his duties on July 1.

The Board also named Jared Morrison to fill a vacancy and bring the number of board members back to seven.

St. Elmo board members approved Hurst-Rosche for gym ceiling design and possible lighting; approved the amended calendar for this school year after using snow days earlier this year; approved the resignation of Brittani Durbin as junior high assistant volleyball coach and then named Durbin as junior high cheerleading sponsor; and hired Celeste Stombaugh as district school counselor.
