The Effingham County Dive Rescue Team had to rescue a son and father from flood waters near Beecher City Monday morning.

Just before 6:30am, the Dive team was called to 300th Street at the railroad trestle just south of Illinois Route 33 at Beecher City. The team responded to 22-year-old Cody Grove of Beecher City, who was found standing on top of his car in the flood waters. While team members were responding, Grove's father, 58-year-old Donn Grove became stranded in the flood waters while attempting to rescue his son.

Dive Team Assistant Commander Jeremy Kyle said team members were able to safely remove both men from the swiftly flowing waters with the help of Tri-County Fire Protection District and the Effingham County Sheriff's Department. Both men were evaluated by waiting EMS personnel.

Due to the depth of the water, Grove's vehicle will be recovered later as the flood waters recede.

The Dive Rescue Team spent approximately 30 minutes on scene.

The Effingham County Dive Rescue Team urges all motorists to "Turn Around, Don't Drown" and to never drive on flooded roadways.
