Madigan Indicted by Federal Grand Jury

Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has been indicted by a Federal grand jury.

The 79-year-old Madigan is accused of illegally soliciting business for his private property tax law firm in the indictment. A scheme with utility business Commonwealth Edison was part of the grand jury investigation.

Madigan served as Illinois House Speaker for all but one term from 1971 to 2021. He resigned from his role as speaker in January 2021, then later resigned his seat. He has always denied wrongdoing.
