Altamont Man Arrested on Drug Charges

An Altamont man is in custody following the service of a search warrant at 6245 East 825th Avenue near Altamont.

36-year-old Tyler Schumacher of Altamont was being held in Effingham County Jail on charges of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine over 15 grams, manufacture or delivery of cocaine over 15 grams, armed violence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstructing justice.

Officers from the Effingham City/County SRT team executed a search warrant Tuesday on Schumacher's residence. Schumacher was taken into custody without incident. Suspected methamphetamine and cocaine were located inside the residence along with two firearms. The Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Effingham Police Department, and the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation.

Effingham County Sheriff Paul Kuhns said, "This is another instance where officers from the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Effingham Police Department and Illinois State Police worked together for the benetif of the whole community."
