State police investigated two Thursday morning crashes in Fayette County, both involving injuries.

One occurred at 8:50am on I-70 westbound, a mile west of the Brownstown/Bluff City interchange. A preliminary investigation indicates a car driven by 53-year-old James Minder of Westfield, Indiana and a semi driven by 62-year-old Jon Lewis of Effingham were both westbound. Minder attempted to pass Lewis' semi and he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway. The car struck the guardrail on the right side of the roadway, then on the left side and came to rest in the left lane.

Both Minder and his passenger, 51-year-old Diana Constantino of Westfield, Indiana, were injured and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Minder was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

The other crash occurred at 7:42am on I-70 westbound about two miles west of the first crash scene between Brownstown and Vandalia. State police say a semi driven by 45-year-old John Camplin of Indianapolis skidded out of control on the snowy roadway, struck a guardrail, and rolled over into the right ditch.

Camplin was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Camplin was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
