Effingham City Police Monday released details on an early Thursday morning incident where a vehicle injured a pedestrian.

Police say the incident occurred at 1:19am at 1707 Avenue of Mid America, when a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Lucas Shields of Altamont swerved toward a pedestrian, 24-year-old Dakota Binder of Effingham. The vehicle struck Binder in the hand with the passenger side mirror, causing injuries.

Binder was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Efffingham for treatment.

Shields was arrested on counts of aggravated battery, leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury, and failure to report an accident involving an injury.
