Two cars collided Tuesday morning in Effingham County, resulting in injuries to two people.

The crash happened at 10:41am on US Route 45 at 500th Avenue in Union Township, south of the Watson T.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Trevor Gandy of Olney was westbound on 500th Avenue and a vehicle driven by 77-year-old Delton Blair of Louisville was southbound on Route 45. Deputies report Gandy failed to stop at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and his unit was struck by Blair's vehicle.

Both units left the highway.

Gandy reportedly fled the scene on foot following the crash. Deputies, Illinois State Police troopers, and Illinois Secretary of State Police arrived on scene and joined the search. Gandy was taken into custody about three-quarters of a mile south from the crash scene.

Blair was injured, as was his passenger, 49-year-old Hope Horath of Farina. Both were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Gandy was cited for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, driving while his license is revoked, and disobeying a stop sign.
