You can go home again, at least in the case of Kevin Haarman.

The Dieterich graduate has been hired as the next principal of Dieterich Junior-Senior High School.  Haarman will succeed Cary Jackson, who will become Dieterich Superintendent of Schools on July 1, succeeding the retiring Bruce Owen.

Haarman has been teaching and coaching at Neoga Junior-Senior High School.  He taught Social Studies and has been varsity girls basketball coach for several seasons and has also been coaching at the junior high level.

Jackson said 22 people applied for the principal's job through the Illinois Association of School Boards, and said the IASB sent the Dieterich board and administration 10 names to consider.

Asked what it was about Haarman that caused him to stand out, Jackson said there were many things; his personality, his experience and his being a "local guy", so already has a lot of relationships in the Dieterich community.

Haarman was given a one-year contract.  His pay package will be decided at the next Board meeting.
