Strong Storms Wreaking Havoc

Strong to severe storms rumbled through the region Friday night, causing significant damage in places.

Reports of damage in the Gays community between Mattoon and Windsor along Illinois Route 16. Those reports include structures damaged, downed power lines laying across the highway, and perhaps a propane leak. No reports of any injuries.

Emergency responders were at the scene of a building collapse at the Amazon warehouse after strong winds hit. There were reports as of 11pm of people inside the building after the collapse.

Ameren Illinois was reporting more than 24,000 customers without electric service as of 11pm.

The strongest storm to visit Effingham hit about 11:45pm, featuring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and some hail.
