Another COVID-related Death, 25% Increase in New Cases

Effingham County's Health Department Friday reported an additional COVID-related death, and 122 new cases of the virus.

Officials say the death was that of a man in his 70s. The individual was vaccinated. The man's death brings the number of confirmed COVID-related deaths in Effingham County to 105.

122 new cases of the virus were also reported for the period from Monday, November 29 through Thursday, December 2. When added to the numbers released Monday, it brings the 7-day total to 170 new cases, a 25% increase in new cases compared to the previous week.

The Illinois Region 6, 7-day rolling test positivity rate increased to 8.1% through November 30. Effingham County was at 6.7% for the same period. ICU availability is at 14%, below the 20% warning level set by IDPH.
