North Clay school board members are looking at some improvement projects involving connecting the existing district buildings.

The Board Wednesday voted to proceed with refinancing existing bonds. The move would extend the life of the bonds, but at the same interest rate. The current bonds expire in two years. The bond extension would generate about $8 million.

North Clay Superintendent Travis Wyatt said some of the projects being considered have been discussed for two decades. In addition to connecting the buildings, the work could include HVAC improvements and renovation of the gym floors. Wyatt said federal ESSSR funds and Health and Life Safety money could be utilized.

The North Clay board acted on a number of personnel matters. Mike Owens was hired as junior high boys basketball assistant coach, the resignation of Gretchen Alwardt as junior high assistant volleyball coach was accepted, Kim Harrison was hired as junior high head volleyball coach, Jeff Hembree was approved as a volunteer mentor for the grade school and junior high building, Lois Parker was hired as night custodian at either the high school or the grade school/junior high building, Michelle Ruesken was hired as junior high assistant volleyball coach, Julie Jones was approved as a volunteer junior high volleyball coach, Jerin Romack was approved as a volunteer high school girls cheerleading coach, the hiring of two additional fulltime substitute teachers for the rest of the semester was approved, and a one-day unpaid leave was approved for Kim Teague.

North Clay board members approved joining in with local school districts in their case against the Illinois State Board of Education, approved the tentative fiscal year tax levy, and approved the audit report of the last fiscal year's financial activities.
