Every year, a different National Forest is selected to provide a tree to appear on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building for the holiday season. The 2021 tree was chosen from U.S. Forest Service-Six Rivers National Forest. The People’s Tree began its journey on Oct. 29 starting in Crescent City in far northern California and spend 10 days making multiple stops southward across the entire state. From southern California, it began its 2,500-mile road trip across the country to Washington, D.C. A series of more than 25 festive events will be hosted by communities along the way. Forest Service law enforcement accompanied the tree headed for the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C., after spending the weekend in Effingham, secured at the Kenworth facility on Outer Belt.

The tree left Effingham at approximately 8:30 this morning and is eastbound on Interstate 70 on its way to Ohio.
