UPDATE: We received additional information and design plans of the proposed facility Tuesday. The image we initially shared was an incorrect example of the type of facility being proposed, and we apologize for the error.

A hearing is scheduled for November 10 on the merits of a solid waste transfer station for Fayette County.

Chris Sutter of Countryside Disposal said the transfer station would be a site for solid waste to be loaded into a 100-by-100-foot building. The waste would then be loaded into semi-trailers and hauled to a landfill in southern Illinois. Sutter said the landfill has decades of space.

The transfer station would be located off Illinois Route 185, four miles south and west of Brownstown.

The hearing on the site is set for 1pm on the 10th at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Following the hearing, 30 more days will be allowed by the County, then the Fayette County Board will vote on siting the transfer station at its December meeting.
