Two Drug-Related Arrests in City

Two drug-related arrests have been made by Effingham city police.

Following a narcotics investigation by EPD Investigations, a search warrant was executed at a house in the 900 block of South 3rd Street on Wednesday by members of the Effingham City/County Special Response Team. 

Items located in the residence included methamphetamine, paraphernalia, narcotics packaging material, and other contraband items. 

The Effingham Police Department was assisted by the Effingham County Sheriff's Department and the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force.

The investigation and the execution of the search warrant resulted in two arrests. 24-year-old Ashley N. Schaufler of Effingham was arrested on counts of manufacturing or delivery of 15 to 100 grams of methampheamine, while 44-year-old Daniel A. Barger of Effingham was arrested on a count of possession of less than five grams of meth. Schaufler and Barger were each arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Manufacturing or delivery of methamphetamine is a Class X Felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison and is a non-probationable offense. Those convicted would also face a fine of up to $100,000. Possession of meth is a Class 3 Felony punishable by up to two to five years in prison. Possession of drug paraphernalia is a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail.
