The Stewardson-Strasburg school district has its administrative team in place for the coming school year.

The school board Wednesday promoted elementary school principal Justin Deters to superintendent, effective July 1, 2022. Deters will succeed interim superintendent Kenny Schwengel, who has been serving since the departure of Michele Lindenmeyer last year.

The Board also approved a three-year contract renewal for Cody McCollum to serve as Grades 6-12 principal, effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2025. Also hired was Penny Hill as grade school dean of students for the 2022-2023 school year.

In other business Wednesday, the Stew-Stras board continued discussion on a memorandum of understanding regarding a wastewater project with the Village of Strasburg; and approved a resolution to opt out of implementation of a transitional mathematics instruction requirement. Also approved was a Title I schoolwide waiver for grade school and high school.

In personnel decisions, the Board accepted the resignation of Michelle Barnes as a second grade teacher; hired Grace Schuler as assistant high school girls basketball coach; and accepted the resignation of Brock Vonderheide as volunteer assistant 5th and 6th grade basketball coach.
