Roof work and how to pay for it were topics at this month's Neoga school board meeting.

Superintendent Bill Fritcher said the Illinois State Board of Education has indicated that American Rescue Plan funds can be used on the project, but those won't pay the entire bill, which is estimated by the district's architecture firm at between $1.3 and $1.5 million.

The Neoga district is constrained by P-TELL when it comes to local funds, so Fritcher said TIF money and other sources may be used to fund the balance of the project cost. He said a series of informational meetings will be scheduled when plans are ready for public review and input. Current bonds are close to going off the books. Tax revenue will last be collected on the bonds in the summer of 2023.

In addition to roof work, the district is also considering tuckpointing and asbestos abatement projects.

The Neoga board accepted Jesse Baker's resignation as a bus aide and hired Sue Monroe for the position. A leave was approved for Nichelle Vaughn, and the Board accepted a letter of retirement from Seth James as of the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
