Landfill 33 owner/operator Brian Hayes spoke to the Effingham County Board's Tax and Finance Committee about a modification to the current landfill.

The design of the landfill includes a maximum height of 644 feet. It currently has the maximum height on the north side of the landfill. Hayes is proposing that the maximum height would instead be in the middle of the landfill, which he says would add space. Also, rather than any drainage all running to the south, it would run to three locations around the landfill site.

The change does involve a siting procedure in an effort to meet the nine criteria that were involved in getting the proposed new landfill approved, although Hayes believes most if not all of those critieria have been met.

Meanwhile, Hayes said the final approval has not come for the proposed new landfill, although he said approval often doesn't come until the last minute.
