Five More COVID Related Deaths in County

The Effingham County Health Department has received confirmation of the COVID-related deaths of five county residents. 

The deaths involved two individuals in their 70s, two in their 80s, and one in their 90s.

Three of those individuals were vaccinated for COVID; two were unvaccinated.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID related deaths in the county since the start of the pandemic to 97.

The Health Department has received notification of 20 COVID-related deaths of county residents during August and September; 15 of those were unvaccinated, and five were vaccinated. During that same time period, there were 1,396 cases of COVID, with 196 of those vaccinated, or 14%. 

There've been 92 new positive cases of Coronavirus Disease in Effingham County since Monday, bringing the seven-day total to 154. 55 of those cases involve individuals under age 40.

Effingham County still has the second highest number of daily new cases per 100,000 in the state.
