Effingham resident Joshua Burger has been sentenced to three years in prison for burglary.

The 19-year-old Burger was arrested in May after he got into a verbal disagreement with another individual. Altamont police found Burger hiding in an upstairs storage cabinet at a church building, and had a church-owned item in his pocket.

Burger initially was charged with burglary from a church, but the count was amended to a simple burglary count.

Once out of prison, Burger will be placed on one year mandatory supervised release.
