A motorcycle appears to have caused a fire that destroyed a garage in Teutopolis last week.

Teutopolis Fire Chief Tim McMahon said Pete Goeckner told him he had started the cycle then shut it off and then left it in the garage. He thinks he might have left a battery charger attached to the cycle. Goeckner then left, but his wife later went outside and saw smoke coming from the garage. Neighbors heard an explosion come from the garage.

McMahon said the fire destroyed the detached two-car garage. The fire was also hot enough to melt the siding off the side of the house nearest the garage, and also damaged an outbuilding near the garage. A camper nearby also suffered some smoke damage.

No one was injured in the incident.
