Jasper County officials are considering options when it comes to ambulance service.

The County currently operates its own service, but proposals are being accepted for private ambulance service. Those proposals are due back on August 6.

Several citizens turned out for the Jasper Board's July meeting to discuss the ambulance issue, and most of those present are opposed to switching to a private service. Those who spoke are pleased with the current service, saying ambulance attendants know where people live in the large rural county.

In the meantime, there was discussion about raising the levy for ambulance service from 20 cents to 40 cents. It would be the first increase in the levy since 1998. A motion was approved to have the increase in the ambulance service levy placed on the 2022 election ballot.

Board members were also updated on construction of the Jasper County Law Enforcement Center. Footings and the foundation will be completed in the next 30 days, along with underground utilities.

The Board approved a health insurance plan that will mean lower premium costs for county employees. Also approved was the appointment of Daniel Stark to an unexpired term on the 911 Board, and appointment of Randell Smith as trustee to the North Fork Conservancy District.
