Teutopolis Village Board members Wednesday entertained a crowd of local residents to discuss driveways, storage sheds and four-by-fours.

Julie O'Brien was joined by several other Teutopolis residents to ask that the Village allow the use of side-by-sides within the village limits. O'Brien furnished ordinances from other communities as to how they allow the use of side-by-sides. Board members said they plan to review the proposal before reaching a decision.

As to driveways, the Board and Phil Repking again discussed the requirement that driveways be made of asphalt or concrete. Repking has a rock driveway extending to his shed. He is asking for an extension of time if he has to install a permanent driveway.

There was also discussion of portable storage sheds in Prairie View Subdivision. Storage sheds are permitted, but they are to be built as a permanent structure, not built elsewhere and brought to the subdivision.

There was no decision by the Village Board either on the driveway matter or the storage sheds.

Also Wednesday, the Teutopolis Board approved the installation of a new phone system for the Village Hall by Magoo and Associates, and approved inclusion of land owned by Stevens Industries along the CSX Railroad just west of the Teutopolis High School baseball diamond in the Effingham City/County Enterprise Zone with final decisions still to come from the Effingham City Council, Effingham County Board and the State.

There was discussion about a request from The Effingham Regional Growth Alliance for a $5,000 contribution from the Village, but no decision, and discussion about the fiscal year appropriations ordinance with final action on the item expected at the Village Board's next meeting. The Board also finalized the acquisition of $67,000 in seal coat and aggregate for street maintenance in the new fiscal year.
