Charges to be Filed Against Local Man Tuesday

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said charges will be filed Tuesday against a 21-year-old Effingham man involved in a weekend incident involving law enforcement.

Kibler said earlier information that Marcus Pocrnich would be charged with attempted second degree murder was not correct. He explained that second degree murder involves unintentional actions that lead to a death, so an attempted second degree murder charge would not be possible.

As of Monday afternoon, Kibler expected to charge Pocrnich with two counts of aggravated battery, as well as counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and resisting or attempting to obstruct a police officer causing injury.

Kibler said Illinois State Police are expected to release additional information on the alleged incident.
