Two-Year Prison Term in Effingham County Case

A resident of LeRoy was sentenced to two years in prison in Effingham County Circuit Court Tuesday.

25-year-old Dillon Cagle was arrested with another subject following a traffic stop just after 1am on November 18, 2020. A vehicle containing Cagle and 28-year-old Matthew Lane of Danville was stopped along the Dieterich/Montrose Blacktop, about a mile south of Montrose. Deputies spotted a gun inside the vehicle and conducted a search where methamphetamine and another gun were located.

Lane was arrested on counts of unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as a Fountain County, Indiana warrant. Lane pleaded guilty to the possession of firearm by a felon count and was sentenced to three years in prison.

Cagle was given credit for 217 days served in jail awaiting disposition of his case. He will serve one year's mandatory supervised release once out of prison.
