Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash on US Route 40 near Altamont.

The crash happened at 5:15pm Sunday east of 400th Street.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies report a vehicle driven by 70-year-old Robert Harris of Altamont was eastbound when a vehicle traveling west attempted to pull into a private drive on the south side of the highway. Deputies say Harris had to swerve to miss the westbound vehicle, which was in his lane of traffic. The maneuver caused Harris to lose control of his vehicle, which ended up off the road and upside down in the ditch on the north side of the highway.

Robert Harris and his passenger, 67-year-old Rebecca Harris of Altamont, were both injured and were transported to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Deputies are continuing their investigation into the crash.
