Human Remains Found in Fayette County Identified

The human remains found last week in Fayette County have been identified.

Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris said the remains are those of Joel Anthony Mason, born on August 12, 1987. Coroner Harris said the last contact anyone had with Mason was on August 2, 2020. Mason has family who live in Fayette County.

Harris stated that no further information is being released at this time, pending further investigation. He asked that anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact the Fayette County Coroner's Office or Illinois State Police.

The skeletal remains were found on a farm near Brownstown the afternoon of May 26 by a farmer. The remains were located in a field north of US Route 40 in the area of 1700 North Street.
