The Illinois General Assembly has passed a new version of Illinois' Firearms Owners ID card, or FOID card.

The new bill passed the Illinois Senate Monday by a vote of 40-17.

Local State Senator Darren Bailey voted No on the measure that includes higher fees and more requirements on private firearm sales between individuals. New regulations would also involve the state's federal firearm dealers license holders in those sales.

Another area mentioned by Bailey is fingerprinting FOID card applicants, if you choose an automatic renewal of your card.

Here are remarks from Sen. Bailey during debate of the bill...

The FOID card legislation is House Bill 562. The House approved the measure on April 23 by a vote of 77-30.

The legislation now heads to the governor.
