The Effingham County Republican Central Committee is wanting to hear from those interested in serving as Effingham County Sheriff.

The Central Committee will make a recommendation to the Effingham County Board on who should succeed Sheriff Dave Mahon, who is retiring as sheriff on June 1.

Republicans wishing to be considered for the office should submit their resume, with references, along with a brief letter explaining why they should be recommended to fill out the remainder of Mahon's term. The term will run through the end of November 2022.

Send your application to the Effingham County Republican Central Committee at ECRCC, Attention Rob Arnold/Sheriff Vacancy; PO Box 62, Effingham, IL 62401.

Only those applications received with a postmark date on or before May 14, 2021 will be considered by the Sheriff Vacancy Committee.

Republican Central Committee Chairman Rob Arnold said, depending on the number of applications received, they may need to pre-qualify some candidates. Applicants will be interviewed the week of May 24-27. Arnold said the plan is to have the candidate selected on May 28, when Arnold will submit the name to the County Board.
