Robin Klosterman was selected President of the Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Monday night, as the Board reorganized following the April 6 election.

Klosterman was the only person whose name was placed in nomination for the office, succeeding Angie Byers. Byers did not seek re-election to the Board.

Jill Wendling was chosen Board Vice-President, and Jane Willenborg was chosen Board Secretary.

Each officer will serve a two-year term.

The Board also swore in Chad Thompson and Steve Bone as members. Bone was re-elected earlier this month, while Thompson was elected to his first term.

The problem the Unit 40 board faces, though, is the same as most school boards in the area; not enough people for the seats available. Kathleen Smith, in addition to Byers, did not seek re-election, leaving the Board one member short.

The Board vacancy will be posted Tuesday and the deadline to seek appointment to the Board will be 3pm Friday, May 7. Unit 40 Superintendent Mark Doan said the goal will be to appoint a new member at the regular Board meeting on May 24.
