Altamont School Board Gets Update on End of Year Activities

Altamont school board members this week were updated on end-of-year activities.

Commencement activities will begin with Baccalaureate on Sunday, May 9 at Cornerstone Christian Church in Effingham. The Senior Awards Assembly will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, May 12. The final day of attendance for senior students will be Friday, May 14. Commencement will be on Saturday, May 15 at 1pm. 

Information was also shared concerning the Arts. The cheerleaders, dance team and pep band are planning a Spirit Showcase at 6pm on Sunday, April 18. A choral concert is set for Sunday, April 25 at the grade school and a band concert is set for Sunday, May 2 at the high school. Both concerts will begin at 2pm.

Maintenance Director Alan Whitt indicated he's finalizing summer bleacher replacement at Altamont Grade School and that he hopes to paint the grade school gymnasium at that time. The Altamont Grade School roof project will begin in May, and Whitt reported that the lighting system for the high school baseball field is in progress with the concrete and pillars already in place.

Assistant High School Principal Peggy Bueker reported on student discipline, with 12 out-of-school suspensions, two in-school suspensions, 29 detentions, nine Saturday Schools, five restriction of privileges, and 35 verbal warnings.

In action items, the Altamont board approved the calendar for the coming school year; approved a junior high boys and girls track and softball cooperative agreement with Altamont Lutheran Interparish School; approved exempt non-certified personnel salaries for the coming school year; tabled renewal of the food service agreement for the coming school year until a later date; amended the current school year budget and placed it on display at the Unit Office; hired Kaitlin Uptmor as a paraprofessional and assigned her to the grade school; approved teacher Megan Cole's resignation effective at the end of the school year; approved Logan Hill's resignation as assistant high school basketball coach; approved a leave for Jarielle Cameron; approved a request from the Superintendent to seek a five-year copier lease for the District; and discussed updating the district goals.
