Second Person Dies from Crash West of Effingham Earlier This Month

A second person has died from injuries sustained in a four-vehicle crash west of Effingham earlier this month.

85-year-old Eugene Goers of St. Elmo died early Sunday morning as a result of injuries sustained in the crash on March 18. The crash occurred just after 11am on I-70 just west of Effingham.

State police reported Goers' minivan didn't slow after vehicles ahead had slowed, resulting in the Goers' vehicle rear-ending one of the slowed vehicles and a chain-reaction crash. Goers' wife, Evadine, was fatally injured in the crash.
