Stabbing Incident in Altamont Saturday (UPDATE)

Several arrests have been made in connection with a stabbing that occurred during the noon hour Saturday in Altamont.

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said 33-year-old Blake Miller of Mt. Vernon has been charged with attempted murder. Kibler said Miller is accused of slitting the throat of 27-year-old Victoria Rhodes of Kell during an altercation at a home in Altamont at 12:40pm Saturday. 37-year-old Christina Anderson of Bonnie and Miller have both been charged with aggravated battery as a result of the incident, Anderson under an accountability theory. Preliminary information is that the dispute involved drugs.

The dispute occurred at the home of 29-year-old Jesse Fisher on St. Clair Street in Altamont.

Altamont Police Chief Alan Heiens said Victoria Rhodes and her sister, 35-year-old Natasha Rhodes of Farina, were both reportedly injured and were treated at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, and later released.

Anderson has made an initial appearance in Effingham County Circuit Court. Her bond has been set at $50,000.

Miller is in custody in Jefferson County Jail. He was picked up by Mt. Vernon Police on charges there and by the US Marshal's Service.

On Saturday night, Fisher was arrested by multiple law enforcement agencies on counts of mob action, aggravated battery, conspiracy, possession of meth, meth delivery, possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kibler said Fisher has been formally charged with methamphetamine delivery and his bond has been set at $100,000.

Agencies involved locally to assist the Altamont Police Department include the ILEAS SWAT Team, Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Sheriff's Department. Heiens thanked all of the participating agencies for their assistance in the investigation.
