Four Injured in Saturday Night Crash

Four people were injured in a crash on the interstate outside Effingham Saturday night.

The crash was reported at 8:48pm on I-57 southbound, south of the south tri-level. State police report that an IDOT dump truck, had slowed to turn into the interstate crossover. A vehicle driven by 47-year-old Jamal Spears of Marion failed to slow down and struck the dump truck from behind.

Spears and his passengers, 43-year-old Kimberly Williams of Marion and 65-year-old Vanessa Taylor of Bloomington, were taken by ambulance for treatment of what were termed non life-threatening injuries. The IDOT dump truck driver, 58-year-old Todd Slingerland of Altamont, was also taken by ambulance for treatment of what were also termed non life-threatening injuries.

Spears was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
