A St. Elmo man was injured in a crash just before 8:30 Thursday morning in Effingham. Details were released Monday by Effingham City Police.

The crash happened west of the intersection of Fayette Avenue and Granada Street. Police report a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Mitchell Mars of St. Elmo failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and struck and damaged an Ameren power pole.

Mars was injured, and was transported by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Mars was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
