Delays in Olney Murder Cases

Delays were granted Thursday in the murder cases of three individuals in Richland County.

The delays came in the cases of Rick Meador, Tara Haws and Dale Boatman, Jr. all of Olney, all in connection with the September 6, 2020 shooting death of 19-year-old Kyle Johnson of Olney. Authorities allege that Meador fatally wounded Johnson during an altercation at Walnut and Laurel Streets in Olney. While Meador is accused of shooting Johnson, Haws and Boatman also face murder charges for their roles in the incident.

Meador's case was continued for a pre-trial conference on March 18. No trial date has been set. Meador is a former Effingham resident.

Haws and Boatman are next due in court for pre-trial conferences on February 4.

Meador, Haws and Boatman are each being held under $1 million bond.
