Statewide Unemployment Rate, Jobs Decline in November

The Illinois unemployment rate fell 0.5% to 6.9% in November, while non-farm payrolls lost 20,000 jobs during the month.

The state's unemployment rate was 0.2% higher than the national unemployment rate reported for November, which was 6.7%, down from 6.9% in October. 

The Illinois unemployment rate was up 3.2% from November 2019, when it was 3.7%.

The employment sectors with the greatest gains from a month earlier were Trade, Transportation and Utilties, up 6,500; Professional and Business Services, up 5,300; and Construction, up 2,300. Leisure and Hospitality was down 27,400 jobs from a month earlier. Also down, Manufacturing, down 2,900; and Educational and Health Services, down 2,000.
